RALEIGH (April 9, 2025) – Amid a UNC Board of Governors committee’s discussion Wednesday about program productivity and return on investment, board member John Fraley offered some down-to-earth common sense: Increase teacher pay.
Businesses and people come to North Carolina for its educated workforce, he said.
And despite all the consultants’ studies and metrics, “If we don’t have the teachers, we’re ultimately going to shoot ourselves in the foot,” said Fraley, who also chairs the myFutureNC Commission that aims to increase college attainment in North Carolina.
“This is a very big problem that’s been going on for quite some time,” he said. “We have a responsibility to figure it out.”
Let’s figure it out, North Carolina.

Why would businesses relocate to NC after looking at the public school system.? The problem begins in Raleigh. Educators in NC have left the profession in droves due to our Senators action. and continue to leave. Until this issue is addressed why would businesses relocate to NC.
